Program

Shelter-building

Live outside.

Build community.

Nurture independence.

Backcountry Meal Prep

Adventure Camp bridges the gap between Senior Camp and life as a Helper at Camp Celo. The goals of this new program are to sharpen campers’ outdoor skills, to build confidence and independence, and to  prepare them for compassionate service in the future.

Over the course of four exhilarating weeks, Adventure Campers will take on new challenges at camp and in the wilderness. During long expeditions in the backcountry, campers have opportunities to practice orienteering, first aid, nature journaling, and solo-hiking. Adventure Campers will take responsibility for the planning, preparation, and execution of backcountry cooking at camp and on the trail.

Trail Service Project

As they share in the joys of hard work, Adventure Campers will develop a hands-on legacy project to benefit current and future campers at Celo. Adventure Campers will have the chance to collaborate, brainstorm creative solutions, and work together to revitalize the camp structures and develop programming for younger campers.

Adventure Camp prepares campers to transition to staff through the Helper program. Campers will have the opportunity to be “Helpers for a Day,” taking part in the kitchen and camp work of the staff.

Some other highlights of Adventure Camp include a rock climbing trip in Linville Gorge or another nearby area and a trail maintenance day in the Black Mountains.

We hope you’ll join us.
